Lung Cancer: Meridian Disharmony and Damaged Qi Caused by Chemotherapy

Abstract: Naga with advanced lung cancer was asked to undergo six cycles of chemotherapy. He received the first cycle of chemotherapy and started to suffer severe side effects.  On 3 April 2011, he came to our centre asking for help. This was three days after receiving the third cycle of chemotherapy. AcuGraph reading showed his Pericardium meridian was low. The meridians of his Heart, Spleen and Stomach were split. His Liver meridian was high.  His qi was very low, at only 20%.

Introduction

Surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy and the newly introduced targeted drugs are the “gold standard” of cancer treatment.  But the success of this standard treatment remains controversial.  Reynold  Spector wrote: “The war on cancer has not gone well. Although there has been some progress in the war on cancer initiated by President Nixon in 1971, the gains have been limited”  (1). After conducting much research on cancer Guy Faguet came to the conclusion that “the current cancer treatment is based on flawed concept. The cell-kill approach has failed to achieve its objectives” (2).

The sacred cow in the paddock is chemotherapy which seems to be losing its luster. Chemo-drugs are designed to kill cancer cells, but being non-selective and non-discriminating, they also kill the actively dividing healthy cells of the body. For this reason the bone marrow cells, hair cells, cells lining the mucous membrane and the digestive system, reproductive cells of the testes and ovaries, etc., are also destroyed by the chemo-drugs. In fact, all anti-cancer drugs approved by the US-FDA are toxic and they compromise or destroy a patient’s immune system, thus reducing its ability to provide natural resistance to the body (3).

This paper presents a case study of what it is like after receiving a chemo-treatment.

Case Presentation: The Agony of Chemotherapy

Naga (H568) is a 46-year-old male. In July 2010, he lost his voice. He went to a government hospital for a check-up. He was told that nothing was wrong with him. Later, he went to another government hospital. A scope was performed and again he was told nothing was wrong with him.

In November 2010, Naga had breathing difficulties. A CT scan done at a private hospital indicated lung tumour. A biopsy was performed and confirmed it was a cancer. Naga was asked to undergo six cycles of chemotherapy. He received the first cycle of chemotherapy on 17 February. His wife said since then he suffered severe side effects.  On 3 April 2011, he came to our centre asking for help. This was three days after receiving the third cycle of chemotherapy.

The side effects he suffered were:

  • Unable to eat
  • Unable to sleep
  • Vomiting
  • No energy to even walk
  • Difficulty breathing and breathlessness
  • Severe stomach pain

Below is the AcuGraph reading of 3 April 2011. His Pericardium (PC) meridian was low. The meridians of his Heart (HT), Spleen (SP) and Stomach (ST) were split. His Liver meridian (LR) was high (Figure 1).  His qi was very low, at only 20% and he was 42% Yin (Figure 2).

Figure 2: Naga’s qi is only 20%

The following video recording on 3 April 2010 demonstrated how Naga, his wife and I, the healer agonized over the issue of chemotherapy.  There is nothing much I could do to help. That is the way it is. The only thing I could offer is for Naga to take the Chemo-Tea which generally helps patients in a situation like this.

Discussion

According to Zhang Dai-zhao, founder and director of Oncology Department, China-Japan Friendship Hospital, Beijing, China:  Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) “ assumes that the side effects induced by chemotherapy are primarily caused by excessive heat damaging patient’s body fluids, injuring his qi and blood,  disturbing the function of his Spleen and Stomach, and deficiency of Liver and Kidney” (4).

In the case of Naga, AcuGraph reading showed that his PC, HT, SP, LR and ST meridians were out of balance. Among the side effects suffered were severe stomach pain, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting, difficulty breathing, insomnia and lack of energy.

Jennifer Harper wrote:  According to TCM, the stomach is the “Sea of Nourishment” … when this works efficiently, digestion and metabolism is perfect and the appetite strong … if the energy is disturbed and moves in an upward direction, symptoms such as belching, hiccups, nausea and vomiting will arise. The state of the Spleen is one of the most important factors determining the amount of physical energy a person has; tiredness is a common complaint when this organ is week. This is because the Spleen is the source of life for all other organs. It is in charge of distribution, the transporter of energy. Insomnia, poor memory, forgetfulness, excessive dreaming … can arise if the heart energy is weak. ” In TCM, the liver is another important organ. Its function is “storing blood and ensuring the smooth flow of energy. When there is a disruption of this flow of energy, many symptoms can manifest which can increase levels of both physical and mental tension within the body” (5).

Having understood the above TCM theory, one can understand the reasons behind the various side effects that Naga experienced after his chemotherapy.

For comparison, below are AcuGraph readings of three lung cancer patients (Figures 3 to 8) who refused to undergo chemotherapy or radiotherapy after being diagnosed with the disease.  Their meridian energy patterns are different from that of Naga’s.  Similarly their qi level are higher than Naga’s in spite of the fact that Naga is younger than them. Naga is only 46 years old and his qi was only 20% after chemotherapy.  The age of the others are 59, 71 and 61 and their qi levels were 47%, 37% and 32%. One would expect that a young person would have a higher qi than elderly persons.

Lung Cancer Patients Who Did Not Undergo Chemotherapy

M946 is a 59-year-old male. For two weeks he coughed with blood stained sputum. Later he suffered from breathlessness due to extensive pleural effusion. The doctor tapped out the fluid from his lung and his condition normalized.  The doctor wanted to do further investigations including a biopsy, later to be followed by chemotherapy. He declined. He came to CA Care immediately after being discharged from the hospital, i.e., 29 March 2011.

Figure 4: Qi level of M946 is 47%

M 835 is a 71-year-old male. His problem started with coughs for two weeks. The phlegm produced was stained with blood. A chest CT scan on 25 September 2010 showed that he had a 4 x 3 cm mass in his right lung. This was probably a carcinoma with hilar and mediastinal  lymphadenopathy.  He refused to do a biopsy and further medical treatment. He came to seek our help on 27 September 2010.

Figure 6: Qi level of M835 is 37%

M905 is a 61-year-old male.  His problem started with pains in his chest and shoulder blade in December 2010. There was no cough.  A CT scan on18 January 2001 showed multiple nodular opacities in his right lung suggestive of pulmonary metastases. Left hilar opacity was also noted and was probably due to cancer of the lung. The doctor suggested chemotherapy and radiotherapy. He refused. He came to see us on 21 January 2011.

Conclusion

In conclusion, let me invite you to take some time and ponder on the wisdom of the following quotations:

  • Everybody knows that our present cancer drugs are lousy ~ Wolfgang Wrasidlo, director of drug development, Scripps Clinics, La Jolla, California (6).
  • Drugs for cancer are only effective in 25% of the patients ~ Allen Rose, worldwide vice-president, Glaxo-SmithKline (7) .
  • Chemotherapy is an attempt to poison the body just short of death in the hope of killing the cancer before the entire body is killed. Most of the time it doesn’t work ~ John Lee et al (8).
  • Chemotherapy has been misused to just prolong the dying process and enrich the drug companies and “health care industry” ~ Philipp Shepard, M.D. (9).
  • If we didn’t kill the tumour, we killed the patient ~ William Moloney.
